Nail Care
Bulldogs are known to be difficult when it comes to trimming their nails. "Nail clipper trauma" has been known to turn even the most tenacious Bulldog into 50 pounds of jello. Thats why it's important to begin trimming the toenails when your Bullie is just a puppy, and continue it regularly so they become accustomed to it.

Nails should be very short on the Bulldog.  Unattended nails that grow long can cause splaying, and can affect both the Bulldog's gait and correct function of the limbs and joints.  Overweight and underexercised Bullies can suffer from a breakdown in the strength of their feet and toes

There are three alternatives for keeping the Bulldogs nails very short: clipping, filing, or grinding.  Clipping is usually better left to the professional groomer or veterinarian as it does take some skill and experience to be able to trim the nails as short as possible without damaging the blood supply within the nail, which causes moderate discomfort to the dog.  The second, filing the nails, can be done at home and can prevent the dreaded trip to the vets office for extreme clipping.  The use of a portable, hand-held grinder, such as a Dremel, is often used to grind the nails.  The grinder eliminates the possibility of cutting too deeply while still tidying the nails successfully.
